Malcom X's "Learning to read" and Unit 1

When I read the excerpt from The Autobiography of Malcolm X "Learning to read" I noticed relations between Malcolm X’s autobiography and the first unit.

Malcolm X’s writes how he was frustrated with his poor writing skills and so he decided to improve his skills by practicing his writing and learn new words.

When his skills in reading and writing improved Malcolm X was able to understand what was in books and a whole new world was opened to him. This is similar to Joshua in "How I Learned to Live Google-free" when he saw all of the other alternative search engines available to him instead of Google.

Malcolm X’s readings led him to the ignorance of the history of slavery in America. In "How I Learned to Live Google-free" Joshua talks about how people are ignorant of the other options instead of Google products  due to the convenience that was provided.
